Seattle Washington & British Columbia

We did an autumn trip to Whistler Resort north of where we lived in Squamish in the 1990 time period. But first we stopped in Seattle Washington to visit with Rosemary's Sister. She gave us a driving tour of the town. We went up in the Space needle from which you get a good view of the whole town. We could see Mount Ranier in the distance. We saw the port area, a couple of sports stadiums, and a pretty sunset.

Seattle :

Next we spent a few days with Leina in Vancouver. She has a nice appartment in the middle of town. It was nice because she too likes to walk a lot. It was rather rainy when we were there, but that is typical for this area. I think they get over 300 days of rain a year, but usually its more of a drizzle than a rain.

Vancouver :

We then proceeded to a timeshare exchange in Whistler. David and Aida came a couple of days later to join us, so we had to drive back to airport to pick them up. On our way back we stopped at the Capilano Suspension Bridge. It is a simple suspension bridge crossing the Capilano River in North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The bridge is 140 metres long and 70 metres above the river.

It was a bit rainy, but we were able to get plastic ponchos to control the moisture. A year earlier they had opened the Treetops Adventure, a series of seven suspension bridges attached to eight Douglas-fir trees that provides a walking surface about 100 feet off the floor of the forest. Remy didn't do that walk, but the rest of us did.

I included some pictures that show the width of some of the trees. There were salmon running in the river but you couldn't really see them in the picture, so I excluded that one. The bridge itself was a little shaky due to several folks trying to make it sway.

We then continued to a timeshare exchange in Whistler. We never stayed in Whistler before since Squamish is only an hour or two away, but we visited it many times.

We were a little between seasons on this visit. During the summer they ski up higher on the glacier and in the winter they ski on the slopes we were visiting. So this time of the year they were re-assembling the lifts and doing the yearly maintenance activities for the lifts. It was cold enough to start making snow and they were in the process of getting all that equipment operational. Therefore there weren't a lot of visitors around and we had the area pretty much to ourselves.
